Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2014 Member of the House of Representatives\u2019 Commission\nVIII, Selly Andriany Gantina, has demanded severe and maximum punishment\nfor Brigadier Masias Siahaya, who was found to have assaulted two\nstudents in Southeast Maluku, resulting in the death of one of them.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is truly cruel and barbaric \u2014 how can a law enforcement officer\nattack students? They are clearly no match. The maximum severe\npunishment must be handed down to this individual,\u201d said Selly, as\nquoted in Jakarta on Saturday.<\/p>\n
According to her, the incident reflects the arrogance of security\npersonnel, and the punishment imposed must serve as a sufficient\ndeterrent to prevent similar occurrences in future.<\/p>\n
Beyond identifying human rights violations incompatible with police\ncodes of ethics and the Criminal Code, Selly urged maximum sanctions in\nthe form of life imprisonment as evidence of law enforcement\u2019s failure\nto guarantee the safety of citizens, particularly the nation\u2019s younger\ngeneration.<\/p>\n
\u201cFurthermore, this must be addressed to prevent future conflict. The\nethics hearing must be conducted openly to align with the President\u2019s\naspirations for police reform,\u201d said Selly, firmly asserting that\nDishonourable Discharge (PTDH) must be a non-negotiable ethical\nconsequence.<\/p>\n
Previously, Brigadier Masias Siahaya was reported to have struck the\nhead of a Southeast Maluku State Islamic Junior Secondary School\nstudent, Arianto Tawakal (14), leaving him drenched in blood and\nresulting in his death. The perpetrator, who was stationed at Mobile\nBrigade Pioneer C Headquarters, also assaulted Nasrim Karim (15),\nArianto\u2019s elder brother, causing him to suffer a fractured bone.<\/p>\n
Selly further called for reconciliation efforts. The perpetrator\u2019s\ncommanding officer, she said, must meet with the victims\u2019 family to\ndeliver a personal apology as a form of institutional moral\nresponsibility.<\/p>\n
Additionally, citing House Speaker Puan Maharani, Selly urged the\nstate, through its relevant institutions, to provide comprehensive\nrecovery support for the victims\u2019 family and the surviving victim.<\/p>\n
Such recovery measures should encompass long-term psychological\ncounselling, medical rehabilitation for the victim who suffered bone\nfractures, educational guarantees, and appropriate restitution or\ncompensation.<\/p>\n
Selly views these recovery efforts as vital not merely for healing\nphysical wounds and trauma, but also for ensuring that the victims\u2019\nrights as citizens are fully restored with dignity.<\/p>\n
