House indecisive on presidency bill<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Two years ago, the House of Representatives (DPR)
\nagreed that it would deliberate upon the presidency bill, but the
\nspecial committee tasked with debating the bill has inexplicably
\nnot begun.<\/p>\n
A member of the special committee, Zein Badjeber, provided an
\nexcuse on Tuesday, saying he had never been invited to discuss
\nthe bill.<\/p>\n
"We are just waiting for further developments," Zein of the
\nUnited Development Party (PPP) said here.<\/p>\n
A plenary meeting of the House in June 2001 agreed to
\ndeliberate the bill, which was drafted by the House members to
\nprevent abuses of power by the President.<\/p>\n
The bill was drafted when then president Abdurrahman Wahid had
\nbeen mistakenly accused of misusing US$2 million in humanitarian
\naid for Aceh from Brunei Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah.<\/p>\n
However, the special committee has never convened a meeting to
