        "content": "<p>House goes on 2-week vacation<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The House of Representatives (DPR) went into a<br>\ntwo-week recess on Saturday, one week later than originally<br>\nscheduled because pressing matters, including the need to pass<br>\nthe new tax bills, forced it to work overtime.<\/p>\n<p>In the past week, the House endorsed three bills on amending<br>\nthe tax laws, and ratified the World Trade Organization treaty<br>\nand an extradition treaty with the Australian government.<\/p>\n<p>A bill on limited companies was also deliberated at length<br>\nduring the season but the House could not complete the reading as<br>\nit had earlier anticipated.<\/p>\n<p>During the just ended working season, which began on Aug. 16,<br>\nthe House also held preliminary discussions with government<br>\nministers about the government&apos;s spending plans for the 1995\/96<br>\nfiscal year which starts on April 1.<\/p>\n<p>The House will resume work on Oct. 31 for more hearings about<br>\nthe government&apos;s budget plans.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech to a plenary session on Saturday, Wahono also<br>\nmade a number of observations about the current state of the<br>\nnation.<\/p>\n<p>The House is very concerned about reports that some companies<br>\nhave obtained subsidized government loans by forging export<br>\ndocuments, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that this fraud has been taking place because of<br>\ncollusion between business people and government officials and<br>\nalso because of loopholes in the regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The Attorney General&apos;s office is now investigating these<br>\nallegations.<\/p>\n<p>Wahono said the House was also concerned about the impact of<br>\nskyrocketing cement prices on construction activities and is<br>\nappealing to producers and retailers to bring the price down.<\/p>\n<p>The House also urged the government to better manage the<br>\nforest fires which recently occurred in various parts of the<br>\ncountry, and suggested involving local people to prevent similar<br>\noccurrences in the future.
