Deputy Chairman of House Commission I of the Republic of Indonesia,\nSukamta, has requested that the United Nations (UN) press Israel to take\nresponsibility for the deaths of three TNI soldiers in the Peacekeeping\nMission in Lebanon. Sukamta hopes the government can encourage the UN to\ntake a firm stance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe UN must take responsibility, including by urging Israel to be\naccountable for their actions that led to the deaths of three Indonesian\nsoldiers. The government needs to push the UN to be firm,\u201d said Sukamta\nto reporters on Tuesday (7\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
He noted that the attacks carried out by Israel have been repeated,\nresulting in three other TNI soldiers being injured. Sukamta requested\nthat the TNI and the government ensure the safety of the soldiers\nthere.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis repeated incident cannot be left unchecked. We also ask the TNI\nand the Government to ensure the safety of the injured soldiers,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
This PKS legislator assessed that Indonesia\u2019s position holds\nstrategic weight. Because, he continued, Indonesia is not only a country\nthat has lost personnel but also one of the largest contributors of\npeacekeeping troops worldwide.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis means the incident concerns two layers of interests at once,\nnamely protection for national soldiers and the consistency of\ninternational security governance for all peacekeeping missions,\u201d stated\nSukamta.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the investigation does not yield accountable accountability, the\nprecedent formed will weaken the position of peacekeeping forces in\nvarious conflict areas in the future,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
House Commission I hopes that the push for investigation does not\nstop at tracing the technical causes of death. He emphasised the need\nfor an evaluation of compliance by all conflicting parties with the\nprinciples of UN force protection as regulated in international\nhumanitarian law.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the context of increasing military operations in southern\nLebanon, the presence of UNIFIL personnel should be within a protection\nperimeter recognised by all parties,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sukamta urged the government to intensify diplomacy with Security\nCouncil member states. He also called for an internal evaluation of\npersonnel protection in peacekeeping forces.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government needs to utilise all available diplomatic channels,\nboth through Indonesia\u2019s permanent representation at the UN, bilateral\nforums, and intensive communication with Security Council member\ncountries, to ensure the investigation proceeds independently,\ntransparently, and results in an official position acceptable to the\ninternational public,\u201d explained Sukamta.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is also important to have an internal evaluation of the\nIndonesian personnel protection system in active conflict areas. Not in\nthe sense of reducing Indonesia\u2019s commitment to world peacekeeping\nmissions,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Sukamta views the current situation in Lebanon as showing that the\nline between monitoring zones and threat zones is becoming increasingly\nthin. Adaptation of security procedures, he said, must be a serious\nconcern for the government together with the TNI.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis means ensuring that Indonesian soldiers serving as peacekeepers\nreceive maximum security and safety guarantees,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
