        "content": "<p>Hotels and restaurants get health certificates<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Thirty-six hotels, restaurants and catering<br>\nservices received health certificates from the city<br>\nadministration yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Fauzy Bowo, the head of the City Tourism Agency, said at the<br>\nKartika Chandra Hotel in Jakarta that the certificates, presented<br>\nby Deputy Governor of Economic Development Tb. Rais, would help<br>\nboost tourism in the capital.<\/p>\n<p>\"We want healthy, clean restaurants and catering services to<br>\nkeep the city attractive to tourists,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Agency records show that 14.17 percent of foreign tourist<br>\nexpenditure and 17.15 percent of local tourist spending in 1994<br>\nwere on food and beverages.<\/p>\n<p>The city enjoyed Rp 818.9 billion (US$372 million) in food and<br>\nbeverage revenues in 1994.<\/p>\n<p>Fauzy added that restaurants and catering services in the city<br>\nshould try to promote Indonesian foods and beverages.<\/p>\n<p>Officially, Jakarta has 99 certified restaurants, hotels and<br>\ncatering services.<\/p>\n<p>Rais said that the system of certifying hotels, restaurants<br>\nand catering services, which started in 1993, is part of the<br>\nadministration's efforts to promote a greater public awareness of<br>\nhygiene.<\/p>\n<p>Criteria<\/p>\n<p>Certification criteria include a sanitary building, equipment<br>\nand environment as well as healthy workers that maintain a tidy<br>\nappearance.<\/p>\n<p>In yesterday's ceremony, the deputy governor also awarded<br>\nspecial health certificates to the owners of four canteens<br>\nlocated in the East and South Jakarta mayoralties, at West<br>\nJakarta's Kebon Jeruk public health center and at the Pademangan<br>\ndistrict head's office in North Jakarta.
