Hotels and restaurants get health certificates<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Thirty-six hotels, restaurants and catering
\nservices received health certificates from the city
\nadministration yesterday.<\/p>\n
Fauzy Bowo, the head of the City Tourism Agency, said at the
\nKartika Chandra Hotel in Jakarta that the certificates, presented
\nby Deputy Governor of Economic Development Tb. Rais, would help
\nboost tourism in the capital.<\/p>\n
\"We want healthy, clean restaurants and catering services to
\nkeep the city attractive to tourists,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Agency records show that 14.17 percent of foreign tourist
\nexpenditure and 17.15 percent of local tourist spending in 1994
\nwere on food and beverages.<\/p>\n
The city enjoyed Rp 818.9 billion (US$372 million) in food and
\nbeverage revenues in 1994.<\/p>\n
Fauzy added that restaurants and catering services in the city
\nshould try to promote Indonesian foods and beverages.<\/p>\n
Officially, Jakarta has 99 certified restaurants, hotels and
\ncatering services.<\/p>\n
Rais said that the system of certifying hotels, restaurants
\nand catering services, which started in 1993, is part of the
\nadministration's efforts to promote a greater public awareness of
\nhygiene.<\/p>\n
Criteria<\/p>\n
Certification criteria include a sanitary building, equipment
\nand environment as well as healthy workers that maintain a tidy
\nappearance.<\/p>\n
In yesterday's ceremony, the deputy governor also awarded
\nspecial health certificates to the owners of four canteens
\nlocated in the East and South Jakarta mayoralties, at West
\nJakarta's Kebon Jeruk public health center and at the Pademangan
\ndistrict head's office in North Jakarta. (29)<\/p>",
