        "content": "<p>Hoteliers pledge to improve service<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association<br>\n(IHRA) will consolidate its members in cooperation with local<br>\nadministrations to improve services to tourists.<\/p>\n<p>The association's chairman, Ponco Sutowo, told reporters after<br>\nthe closing of its two-day annual conference here yesterday that<br>\nboth hoteliers and restaurant owners should cooperate in creating<br>\nbetter services in hospitality arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>\"We think local administrations cannot do anything without<br>\nbusinessmen, while businessmen should not insist that local<br>\nadministrations allow them to do whatever they want,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that IHRA will slightly reform its supervision<br>\nsystem, also with an aim of service improvement.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will soon establish a supervision system based on the<br>\nregionalization of tourism destinations set by the government.<br>\nSuch a system will hopefully be useful for control and guidance,\"<br>\nPonco said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that such a system will also be good for the progress<br>\nof the hotel and restaurant industries.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the Association of Indonesian Tour and Travel<br>\nAgencies (Asita), which also closed its annual conference<br>\nyesterday, confirmed its previous agreement on the limitation of<br>\nairfare discounting, which is, according to it, the best solution<br>\nto end fierce competition.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement among tour and travel agencies, effective on<br>\nMarch 1, limits competition among them by outlawing the practice<br>\nof using their commissions to discount tickets above the<br>\ndiscounts given by airlines. The agreement, called \"Plan Save 5,\"<br>\nalso allows discounts of no greater than seven percent on tickets<br>\nfor international flights. In the past, discounts reached up to<br>\n40 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Asita will also help improve the operation of its four<br>\nchapters, comprising those from North Sumatra, Riau, North<br>\nSulawesi and Irian Jaya.(hdj\/icn)<\/p>",
