Hotel Majapahit reopens<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The historic Hotel Majapahit in Surabaya, East
\nJava, officially reopens today after a US$35 million, two-and-a-
\nhalf-year renovation.<\/p>\n
The hotel, now called Hotel Majapahit Mandarin Oriental
\nSurabaya, is managed by the Hong Kong-based hotel management
\nchain, Mandarin Oriental.<\/p>\n
The hotel, built in 1910, will be reintroduced by Minister of
\nTourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave, who will also be
\ncelebrating his 62nd birthday.<\/p>\n
The 150-room hotel, now 75 percent owned by PT Sekar Group and
\n25 percent by Mandarin, is located on Jl. Tunjungan in the center
\nof Surabaya.<\/p>\n
Majapahit Mandarin Oriental Surabaya is the second hotel
\nmanaged by Mandarin in Indonesia after the Mandarin Oriental
\nJakarta. The group also manages other hotels in Bangkok, Hong
\nKong, Macau, Manila, San Francisco and Singapore.<\/p>\n
Besides the Mandarin, Surabaya already has at least seven
\ninternational deluxe hotel chains in operation, including
\nSheraton, Radisson, Novotel, Shangri-La, Hyatt, Westin and
