Hospital workers stage protest<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): At least 200 employees of Sumber Waras Hospital
\nstaged a rally inside the hospital complex on Jl. Kyai Tapa in
\nWest Jakarta yesterday, demanding the resignation of the chairman
\nof Sumber Waras Health Foundation, Padmo Sumasto.<\/p>\n
Arend Karel Ponggawa, a director of the hospital who led the
\nprotest, said Padmo had not been open about financial matters
\nduring his 30-year chairmanship of the foundation.<\/p>\n
\"He is no longer popular among the employees for many reasons,
\nespecially the indiscriminate actions he frequently takes,\" Arend
\ntold The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
During the rally, the employees claimed they had established a
\ncommittee, called Sumber Waras Salvage Committee, in charge of
\ntemporarily taking over the hospital's operational activities
\nuntil their demand was met.<\/p>\n
Yesterday's rally was the second in two weeks.<\/p>\n
Arend, however, said it was up to the donors of the foundation
\nto choose a new chairman to replace Padmo.<\/p>\n
He said the rally did not interrupt the hospital's medical
\nservices.<\/p>\n
Mudjiem, one protester, said she had finished her shift in the
\nmorning before joining the rally.<\/p>\n
She expressed concern over the low salaries decided on by the
\nfoundation over the years.<\/p>\n
\"New employees in other hospitals earn about Rp 500,000 per
\nmonth, but here they get only Rp 170,000,\" said Mudjiem. (ivy)<\/p>",
