Horta wants to form shadow govt<\/p>\n
CANBERRA (Antara): Anti-integration activist Jose Ramos Horta
\nhas announced his so-called East Timor Liberation movement would
\nset up a shadow government in Indonesia's 27th province.<\/p>\n
The cabinet line up would consist of East Timorese anti-
\nIndonesian activists who live abroad and in the province, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Ramos Horta, who shared the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize with Dili
\nBishop Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo, said on Australian SBS radio
\nhere recently that the names of the shadow cabinet members could
\nnot be revealed for fear of the safety of those in East Timor.<\/p>\n
He said if the "officials" proved their usefulness, the shadow
\ngovernment could in time be "recognized as the legal government
\nfor the East Timorese people".<\/p>\n
The former Portuguese colony integrated into Indonesia in 1976
\nbut the United Nations still recognizes Lisbon as its
\nadministrator.<\/p>\n
A test round of talks on East Timor between Indonesian and
\nPortuguese foreign ministers under the auspices of the UN has
\nbeen postponed.<\/p>\n
Ramos Horta, who visited Macao recently, said the idea had
\nbeen forwarded to former Fretilin leader Xanana Gusmao, who is
\nstill serving his 20-year-imprisonment in Jakarta's Cipinang
\nprison.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a court in London reportedly adjourned the case of
\nthe two British anti-Indonesian government activists Carol
\nO'Leary and Stefen Handcock.<\/p>\n
Both allegedly trespassed on the British Aerospace Airbase and
\ndestroyed a number of jet fighters purchased by the Indonesian
\ngovernment in a protest against the selling of jet fighters to
\nIndonesia.<\/p>",
