Organised by the<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong Trade Development Council<\/p>\n<p>(HKTDC), the three-day extravaganza for the licensing trade ran from\n27 to 29 April, attracting more than 330 exhibitors and showcasing over\n600 brands and licensing projects. The<\/p>\n<p>Asian Licensing Conference<\/p>\n<p>brought together some 20 international licensing experts to explore\nkey industry topics, including global licensing trends and the industry\noutlook, intellectual property (IP) licensing strategies for overseas\nexpansion, sports licensing, location-based entertainment, food and\nbeverage licensing, and creative marketing strategies. The two events\nserved as cross-regional and cross-sectoral business expansion platforms\nacross multiple categories, creating global business opportunities for\nparticipants and promoting regional IP trade development.<\/p>\n<p>Jenny Koo,<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Executive Director<\/p>\n<p>of the HKTDC<\/p>\n<p>, said: \u201cUnder the support of the national 15th Five-Year Plan, Hong\nKong continues to deepen its role as a regional IP trading hub. As one\nof Asia\u2019s most mature licensing markets, the city boasts a\nwell-established industry ecosystem, with the licensing sector serving\nas a core engine for IP trade. We are pleased to see licensing\napplications expanding from traditional character merchandising to cover\nlocation-based entertainment, food and beverage, e-commerce and a host\nof other fields, forming a complete licensing industry chain that helps\nto create more business opportunities for the industry globally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response to the rapid development and growing popularity of\ne-commerce, this year\u2019s Licensing Show introduced the new<\/p>\n<p>IP and<\/p>\n<p>e<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>C<\/p>\n<p>ommerce Support Services<\/p>\n<p>Z<\/p>\n<p>one<\/p>\n<p>. In collaboration with the E-commerce Association of Hong Kong, Hong\nKong eCommerce Supply Chain Association and the Hong Kong Federation of\nE-Commerce, the zone hosted multiple workshops on building online shops,\ndigital marketing and livestream commerce, helping small and medium-size\nenterprises (SMEs) capitalise on e-commerce to sell their IP products\nglobally.<\/p>\n<p>Among the participants was Digitify Online Growth, an e-commerce\nplatform specialising in digital marketing and e-commerce operation\nsolutions. Kay Leung from the company said: \u201cThe greatest value of this\nnew dedicated zone lies in \u2018promotion\u2019 and \u2018education\u2019. In the current\neconomic climate, industries across different sectors are actively\nseeking new avenues to expand their business. This zone serves as an\nessential foundation for SMEs, raising awareness of how to effectively\nleverage e-commerce as a springboard to promote their brands and sell\ntheir IP products to the global market.\u201d Prof.\u00a0Charles Ng from another\nexhibitor, StarLite IPC Limited, said: \u201cThis year\u2019s Licensing Show has\ntruly played the role of an \u2018all-rounded accelerator\u2019 in driving\nindustry growth. During this critical period of economic recovery in the\nAsian market, the show has successfully brought together leading\nlicensors, licensing agents and brand owners from around the world,\nproviding an efficient business matchmaking platform for IP\nlicensing-focused enterprises like ours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the impact of the new<\/p>\n<p>IP and<\/p>\n<p>e<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>C<\/p>\n<p>ommerce Support Services<\/p>\n<p>Z<\/p>\n<p>one, Jenny Koo<\/p>\n<p>said: \u201cThis aligns well with the direction of the Hong Kong SAR\nGovernment\u2019s policy to enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong SMEs in\nrelation to cross-border e-commerce. The HKTDC will continue to provide\nan ideal platform for the global licensing industry to showcase more\ndiversified brand licensing projects, strengthening Hong Kong\u2019s position\nas an international licensing hub.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Licensing Show continued to feature the<\/p>\n<p>DLAB Hong Kong Pavilion<\/p>\n<p>, bringing together nearly 40 exhibitors to showcase multiple Hong\nKong original brands and IPs. Among them, local designer Kirsten Lie\npresented her original IPs and secured collaboration opportunities with\noverseas shopping malls. She said: \u201cThe current negotiations are highly\nencouraging, with enthusiastic responses all around. We are now in\nserious discussions with two overseas shopping malls and will meet with\ntheir senior management next week to move the partnership forward.\u201d\nAnother participating designer, James Ho, said \u201cThis year\u2019s Licensing\nShow provides an excellent brand promotion platform for local designers,\nenabling us to reach and engage with potential partners from diverse\nsectors on a broad scale.\u201d In addition, this year\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong Licensing<\/p>\n<p>Force Showcase<\/p>\n<p>featured The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist\nUniversity and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, with the newly\nparticipating Hong Kong Design Institute joining to showcase creative\ndesigns by emerging local talents.<\/p>\n<p>Key topics at this year\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>Asian Licensing Conference<\/p>\n<p>included how non-traditional toy IPs resonate with young consumers in\nthe emotional economy along with new development models for food and\nbeverage licensing.
