        "content": "<p>Honest monkey business<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Some villagers in Indragiri Hulu, Riau, have<br>\nspent the money they received as part of a presidential aid to<br>\npurchase monkeys, not for pets but rather to help them gather<br>\ncoconuts from tall palm trees.<\/p>\n<p>\"It's all perfectly legal as long as it has economical value,\"<br>\nIndragiri Hulu Regent Ruchiyat Saefuddin was quoted by the Antara<br>\nnews agency as saying.<\/p>\n<p>\"Rather than compelling them to buy a cow, why not let them<br>\nbuy something which they see as more productive,\" Ruchiyat said.<\/p>\n<p>The government has plunged packets of Rp 20 million into<br>\nthousands of poor villages in Indonesia under a presidential aid<br>\nprogram. The program allows the recipients to decide for<br>\nthemselves how they want to productively spend the money. Local<br>\nofficials are only supposed to supervise.<\/p>\n<p>Ruchiyat said villagers who bought monkeys earn between Rp<br>\n20,000 and Rp 30,000 a week.<\/p>\n<p>That's no monkey business in impoverished villages.
