        "content": "<p>The head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar\nWidyasanti, has revealed that the home ownership backlog and the\nuninhabitable housing backlog have both declined. This is based on the\nNational Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) for March 2026 compared to\nMarch 2025.<\/p>\n<p>She explained that BPS presents two types of backlog. The first is\nthe home ownership backlog, which is the percentage of households that\ndo not own their own home. The second is the condition where households\noccupy their own homes but the dwellings are unfit for habitation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on the March 2026 Susenas, we have updated this backlog data.\nBacklog one, the number and percentage of households that do not own a\nhome, has decreased from 13 percent in March 2025 to 12.39 percent in\nMarch 2026,\u201d Amalia stated during the release of the Housing Statistics\nPublication in Jakarta, quoted on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the home ownership backlog figure fell from 9.64\nmillion households in March 2025 to 9.29 million households in March\n2026. Meanwhile, the second backlog reached 24.03 percent in March 2026,\nor approximately 18.01 million households, a decrease from 25.33\npercent, or around 18.77 million households, in March 2025. \u201cSo, both\nbacklog one and backlog two have improved or numerically decreased,\u201d\nAmalia said.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that the second backlog figure in 2026 is twice as high as\nthe first backlog. This high figure indicates that creating equitable\naccess to liveable housing is a development priority. This aligns with\nthe Ministry of Housing and Residential Areas\u2019 decision to increase the\ntarget for the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme\nfrom 45,000 to 400,000 units, as statistical data suggests a need for a\nfaster reduction.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Housing and Residential Areas is collaborating with\nBPS to strengthen the governance of the 3 Million Houses Programme\nthrough the use of accurate, integrated, and evidence-based data.\nMinister Maruarar Sirait has emphasised that housing policy must be\nbuilt on a strong data foundation to ensure government programmes are\nimplemented in a targeted, effective, and accountable manner.<\/p>",
