        "content": "<p>Home industries going global<\/p>\n<p>Abdul Khalik, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Several expatriates seriously observe the jewelry in one of<br>\nstands in a one-day bazaar for Christmas season organized by the<br>\nAustralian-New Zealand Association (ANZA) on Tuesday at JW<br>\nMarriott, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Around 175 Indonesian home industries exhibited their<br>\nproducts, ranging from cakes and breads to shoes, clothes and<br>\nhandicrafts.<\/p>\n<p>Andrea Cush of ANZA estimated that around 500 expatriates and<br>\nforeign housewives living in Jakarta swarmed in the bazaar until<br>\nafternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\"Visitors come here to buy a whole range of Christmas gifts,<br>\nIndonesian handicrafts and lots of different things. We help also<br>\nseveral foundation to be able to sell their products to wider<br>\nmarket,\" Cush told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>Most of vendors are small-scale traditional handicraft makers<br>\nthat come from several areas in Central and West Java.<\/p>\n<p>Damanhuri, a gemstone maker from Sukabumi, West Java,<br>\nexpressed his relief as he could sell 50 products until nearly<br>\nthe closing of the bazaar.<\/p>\n<p>As an expatriate was approaching his lot and looked very<br>\ninterested in one of his products, Damanhuri was quick to take<br>\ninitiative to explain to the lady, although in a broken English,<br>\nall about his products.<\/p>\n<p>Only in several seconds a hand-made gemstone chess changed<br>\nhands for Rp 175,000 (US$19.4).<\/p>\n<p>\"I brought all of my merchandises straight from Sukabumi.<br>\nAlthough we have to pay Rp 300,000 for the spot in the bazaar,<br>\nthe profit can compensate it,\" he told the Post.<\/p>\n<p>He added that his main objective was to promote his<br>\nmerchandises through several regular expatriate bazaar in Jakarta<br>\nheld by embassies, international schools and other expat<br>\ncommunities while hoping that through the expatriates he can<br>\nreach out into Australian, European, the U.S markets.<\/p>",
