Director General of Regional Administration Development at the\nMinistry of Home Affairs, Safrizal Zakaria Ali, has stated that\nintegrated disaster command post management and data are key to\naccelerating the emergency response to the earthquake in Sikka Regency,\nEast Nusa Tenggara.<\/p>\n
\u201cSolid command post management and integrated data are the key to\nrapid emergency response. We encourage the Regional Disaster Management\nAgency (BPBD) and all elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination\nForum (Forkopimda) in Sikka to maintain this good coordination, while\nalso enhancing preparedness given the ongoing potential for\naftershocks,\u201d Safrizal said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The remarks were made after he accompanied Home Affairs Minister Tito\nKarnavian on an inspection visit to Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara\nProvince, on Wednesday (19\/8), following the tectonic earthquake that\nstruck the region.<\/p>\n
The visit also aimed to ensure that emergency response measures were\nrunning optimally and that public services remained intact.<\/p>\n
During the visit, Safrizal and the Home Affairs Minister also\ninspected Laurentius Say Port in Maumere.<\/p>\n
According to a report from the Sikka Regent, the earthquake resulted\nin three fatalities.<\/p>\n
The Home Affairs Minister expressed his deepest condolences to the\nfamilies of the victims, while also commending the Ministry of\nTransportation, the harbourmaster, and the Port Authority for their\nswift efforts in restoring normal port service operations despite damage\nto several buildings.<\/p>\n
The harbourmaster reported that operations remained smooth thanks to\na digitalised service system equipped with a backup mechanism. The Home\nAffairs Minister stressed that officials must remain vigilant against\nthe potential for small-scale aftershocks, which according to the\nMeteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) may still occur\nover the next two to three weeks.<\/p>\n
As a demonstration of the state\u2019s presence among communities affected\nby the disaster, the Home Affairs Minister presented condolence\nassistance to the family of the late Maria Diana Meliana, one of the\nearthquake victims in Kota Uneng Urban Village, Alok District.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, the Home Affairs Minister offered moral support and\nencouragement to the bereaved family, affirming that the government is\npresent to ease the burden on the community.<\/p>\n
The visit concluded with an inspection of the Tectonic Earthquake\nEmergency Response Command Post managed by the Sikka Regency BPBD.<\/p>\n
The Home Affairs Minister expressed appreciation for the command post\nmanagement, which was assessed as excellent, detailed and comprehensive\nin presenting disaster data. The system was deemed to support\ncross-sector coordination and rapid decision-making in the field.<\/p>\n
