Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has emphasised that\noptimising the public housing programme will not only help people obtain\ndecent housing but also drive economic growth in the regions. The\nprogramme will stimulate various business sectors, from banking and\nhousing developers to building material shops, while creating jobs for\nthe community.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf this housing issue can be handled properly and its problems\nresolved, besides addressing poverty and people\u2019s hardships, it will\ncreate a revolving economic ecosystem,\u201d the minister said during the\nCollaboration on Housing Financing and People\u2019s Economic Empowerment\nProgramme event at the Papua Governor\u2019s Office in Jayapura on\nMonday.<\/p>\n
Mendagri explained that housing remains a challenge in Indonesia due\nto the gap between housing needs and the availability of decent homes.\nTherefore, President Prabowo Subianto has tasked the Ministry of Housing\nand Settlement Areas to accelerate the resolution of this issue.<\/p>\n
He said these efforts need support from local governments, including\nin Eastern Indonesia. Regional support will accelerate development while\nimproving community welfare. Moreover, relying solely on regional\nbudgets would limit the reach of housing programmes.<\/p>\n
Consequently, Mendagri urged local governments to support housing\nprogrammes by accelerating and simplifying licensing, including by\noptimising Public Service Malls. Regions are also encouraged to waive\nBuilding Approval retribution and Land and Building Title Transfer Fees\nfor low-income residents.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo that developers are motivated to build housing. They can also\naccess KUR, the People\u2019s Business Credit,\u201d Mendagri explained.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Mendagri also expressed regret that many areas in\nTanah Papua have yet to issue Building Approvals for low-income\nresidents. He noted that this has resulted in unequal access to decent\nhousing. Additionally, the number of Public Service Malls in Papua is\nstill relatively limited.<\/p>\n
