Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian, as Chair of the Task\nForce for Accelerated Disaster Recovery and Reconstruction (PRR) in\nSumatra, confirmed that disaster management in three Sumatran provinces\nhas entered the permanent recovery phase, also known as rehabilitation\nand reconstruction (rehab rekon).<\/p>\n
He made the statement following a Coordination Meeting with the House\nof Representatives\u2019 Disaster Recovery Task Force at the Parliament\nComplex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 25 May 2026.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Tito outlined the progress of disaster management\nand the government\u2019s plan to draft a master plan (renduk) for\naccelerated rehab and rekon in affected areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am reporting two things: first, the current situation update;\nsecond, what we will do next, particularly the approval of the master\nplan for accelerated rehab and rekon in the three Sumatran provinces,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Tito explained that disaster management is carried out in three\nphases: emergency response, transitional phase, and permanent\nrecovery.<\/p>\n
The former Police Chief of Indonesia (Kapolri) noted that government\nservices in affected areas have resumed. Local government activities at\ndistrict, sub-district, and village levels, which were previously\ndisrupted, are gradually returning to normal, although some affected\ncommunities remain in temporary housing (huntara) or using the Housing\nWait Fund (DTH).<\/p>\n
Additionally, essential services such as electricity, fuel (BBM),\npetrol stations (SPBU), internet, hospitals, and health clinics\n(puskesmas) have resumed operations.<\/p>\n
However, the government still faces challenges in some isolated\nvillages due to landslide-affected roads. While some bridges remain\ntemporary, using Bailey bridges, suspension bridges, and other emergency\nstructures.<\/p>\n
In the education sector, most affected schools have resumed classes.\nOf the 4,922 damaged schools, approximately 3,800 have been repaired and\nreopened.
