Hockey field problems delay Games turf installation<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The SEA Games hockey field turf installation has
\nbeen delayed because of a communication problem between the
\nIndonesian Hockey Association and the Games Organizing Committee.<\/p>\n
Organizing committee planning and budget deputy Okky
\nChandrawinata said at the field yesterday that Gary Baumer from
\nAstro Turf, the company appointed to install the turf, could not
\ndo his job because his equipment could not be released from
\nSoekarno-Hatta airport.<\/p>\n
"As soon as I found out about the problem, I asked one of my
\nmen to pay a 'guarantee fee' because the equipment, which weighs
\nabout 500kgs, is owned by Baumer and not part of our material
\norder. I expect it to arrive here tonight," Okky said.<\/p>\n
The organizers had planned to install the turf last week.<\/p>\n
The installation is now expected to start today and finish on
\nSept. 25, weather permitting.<\/p>\n
The equipment arrived Friday but could not be released because
\nthe paperwork was sent to the hockey association instead of the
\norganizers.<\/p>\n
The association, despite being responsible for supervising the
\ninstallation, declined to do the paperwork.<\/p>\n
"If I had found out there was a problem on Friday, Baumer
\ncould have started his job sooner," Okky said.<\/p>\n
The turf arrived from the U.S. last week in four containers.
\nIt is still lying on the field, waiting to be installed.<\/p>\n
The 62 x 100 square meter field was asphalted early last month
\nbut still needs lights, seating, changing rooms and medical and
\ndoping test rooms.<\/p>\n
Organizing committee venue and facilities deputy Saptodarsono
\nsaid that if there was not enough time to install the lights and
\nbuild temporary seating, the organizers would not schedule night
\nmatches for the Games, which start on Oct. 11 and end on Oct. 19.<\/p>\n
Squash<\/p>\n
The squash courts at Senayan Main stadium are nearly ready for
\naction.<\/p>\n
Four of five courts have been completed in the last week.<\/p>\n
During his visit to the courts last week, national training
\ndirector Djoko Pramono urged PT Pembangunan Perumahan -- doing
\nthe civil works --, and Spectra Prima Putra -- installing the
\ncourts --, to try to finish by Sept. 15.<\/p>\n
The main court, which will have spectator seating, is expected
\nto be ready by the end of this month.<\/p>\n
Saptodarsono said the other venues at the Senayan sports
\ncomplex were expected to be ready by Sept. 15.<\/p>\n
The organizers were given a Rp 20 billion (US$7,547,170)
\nsubsidy to renovate the sports venues by the State Secretariat,
\nas the patron board of Gelora Senayan.<\/p>\n
Gymnastics<\/p>\n
Yesterday, gymnastics training director Andi Darussalam
\nTabusala announced the 15 member national gymnastics squad.<\/p>\n
Jonathan Mangiring Sianturi, Lulu Manurung, Zahari, Harun
\nFauzi Rangkuti, Sepri Haryadi and Abdul Razak will compete in the
\nmen's artistic events.<\/p>\n
Afrina Siahaan, Sherly Novitasarie, Helda Sulistina, Nurfiana
\nAchmadi, Ellyningsih and Sukma Anggraini will compete in the
\nwomen's artistic events.<\/p>\n
Yulianti, Wini Sari Triyansyahti and Oh Ze Ching will compete
\nin the rhythmic events.<\/p>\n
Andi said the Indonesian Gymnastics Association expected to
\nwin more golds this time than they did at the last Games in
\nChiang Mai, Thailand.<\/p>\n
Indonesia only won two golds, one silver and four bronzes last
\ntime while Thailand scooped 20 golds, 10 silvers and five
