HIV\/AIDS cases in Semarang City have reached the highest figures in\nCentral Java, becoming a serious concern for local health authorities.\nAccording to recent data, 620 cases were recorded throughout 2025, while\nbetween January and May 2026, 240 new cases have already been\nidentified.<\/p>\n
This surge in findings resembles a snowball effect. Monitoring on\nWednesday (3\/6) indicates that the upward trend in cases in the capital\nof Central Java is quite alarming, given that hundreds of new cases were\ndetected within only the first five months of 2026.<\/p>\n
The Head of the Semarang City Health Office (DKK), Abdul Hakam,\nconfirmed the data, which aligns with records from the Central Bureau of\nStatistics (BPS). He emphasised the importance of public awareness\nregarding early detection without fear.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge the residents of Semarang City not to be afraid to undergo\nHIV testing,\u201d said Abdul Hakam on Wednesday (3\/6).<\/p>\n
Based on data analysis from the Health Office, the risk group with\nthe highest proportion of findings is men who have sex with men (MSM),\nreaching 44%. This figure significantly exceeds other risk groups.<\/p>\n
Abdul Hakam explained that the high number of identified cases in\nSemarang does not always imply a massive increase in community\ntransmission. On the contrary, it demonstrates the success of the reach\nof screening services and the effectiveness of the early detection\nsystem.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe increase in the number of cases found does not always mean HIV\ntransmission is increasing. It shows that more members of the community\nare being successfully reached by screening services,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
With broader early detection, HIV cases can be identified more\nquickly, allowing patients to receive appropriate and regular treatment\nimmediately. This step is crucial for suppressing the risk of further\ntransmission and maintaining the quality of life for people living with\nHIV (PLHIV).<\/p>\n
The Semarang City Government continues to intensify screening through\nvarious health facilities, ranging from community health centres\n(Puskesmas) and clinics to hospitals spread across the city.
