He called for a thorough\nreview of the supply chain and distribution system, including logistics\ninfrastructure readiness, stock management, and real-time supply\nmonitoring, to ensure more effective distribution. The statement was\nmade in response to recent fuel shortages and long queues in North\nSumatra. Leong stressed that energy supply security must be built\nthrough a robust risk mitigation system, adequate buffer stocks, and\npreparedness for potential future distribution disruptions. He also\nhighlighted the importance of synergy between Pertamina, local\ngovernments, and security forces to maintain smooth energy distribution,\nespecially during demand surges. Good coordination, he said, will\naccelerate decision-making, keep distribution routes clear, and minimise\npublic panic caused by inaccurate information. Ultimately, he added, the\nsynergy of all parties is key to maintaining energy supply stability,\nsupporting regional economic activity, and providing certainty for the\npublic and businesses. HIPMI also appreciated the impromptu inspection\nconducted by a member of the House of Representatives Commission XII\nregarding the fuel queues and scarcity in North Sumatra, noting that it\ndemonstrated effective parliamentary oversight. Meanwhile, PT Pertamina\nPatra Niaga recorded a 5 to 10 percent increase in fuel demand in the\nMedan area compared to the daily average. In response, the company\naccelerated distribution capacity by adding 10 operational tankers, 30\nspot charter tankers, and reinforcing personnel with 34 additional\ntanker crew members from nearby fuel terminals and 16 personnel from the\nmilitary. Pertamina also continues to enforce discipline among\noperational partners to ensure distribution meets safety, compliance,\nand reliability standards. Operations at the Medan Fuel Terminal and\nseveral petrol stations were optimised to run 24 hours a day, resulting\nin distribution realisation reaching 104 percent of the daily target on\n14 July 2026, with 149 tanker units operated. The Medan Fuel Terminal is\nnow operating normally, and Pertamina continues to coordinate with local\ngovernments, security forces, and all stakeholders to ensure reliable\nenergy supply for the community.<\/p>",
