President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised the strategic role of state-owned banks (Himbara) in driving national economic growth. The combined market capitalisation of the Himbara banks is estimated at Rp1,100 trillion, representing about 10 percent of the total value of Indonesian companies. The government has directed these banks to prioritise public benefit and equal opportunity, particularly for MSMEs, while maintaining professional and prudent business practices.

Jakarta: The presence of the Association of State-Owned Banks
(Himbara) should be viewed not only as a business entity but also as an
active contributor to public welfare. President Prabowo Subianto
underscored the strategic role of Himbara banks for national economic
growth during a meeting with the boards of commissioners and directors
of Himbara at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM and CEO of
Danantara Rosan Roeslani explained that the combined market
capitalisation of all Himbara banks could reach approximately Rp1,100
trillion. According to Rosan, this figure reflects around 10 percent of
the total value of all national companies. “Bank Himbara’s value is
approximately, for example, Bank Mandiri is worth around Rp450 trillion.
This is based on market capitalisation on the stock exchange. Then BNI
is slightly above Rp450 trillion, followed by BNI at around nearly Rp200
trillion, and also BSI and BTN. So if totalled, the value is
approximately Rp1,100 trillion, which reflects 10 percent of the entire
capital market value or the value of all Indonesian companies,” said
Rosan, as quoted from the Presidential website on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
Seeing this potential, Rosan conveyed President Prabowo’s directive that
the presence of Himbara banks should be seen not only as business
entities but also as institutions that actively provide benefits to
society. Rosan mentioned that this could include providing equality and
opportunity for all levels of society, including Micro, Small, and
Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). “Banking should not solely pursue profit,
but its presence must also be felt by the community, the people, in the
form of providing equality and opportunity for all levels, from MSMEs to
commercial and corporate entities,” Rosan explained. Himbara banks also
play a crucial role in supporting government programmes. However, Rosan
noted that in carrying out their roles and business processes, Himbara
banks must uphold the principles of prudence and professionalism. “The
most important thing is that everything must be carried out with the
principle of prudence, professionally, and the presence of Himbara must
truly be felt by all Indonesian people by providing equal
opportunities,” he said. Rosan also stated that the Indonesian economy
must become self-reliant. Therefore, the role of banking, especially
Himbara banks, is vital in supporting the nation’s economy.
",
