        "content": "<p>Banda Aceh (ANTARA) \u2013 The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and\nTechnology (Kemendiktisaintek) has strengthened several universities in\ndisaster-prone areas to develop disaster-management laboratories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese laboratories will not only function as centres for research\nand technology development, but also as coordination forums for other\nnearby universities,\u201d Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and\nTechnology Fauzan said in Darussalam, Banda Aceh, on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>After delivering a scientific address at the open session marking the\n65th anniversary of Syiah Kuala University (USK) at AAC Dayan Dawood, he\nexplained that the presence of disaster-management laboratories in\nhigh-risk areas would enable nearby universities to participate directly\nin addressing disasters.<\/p>\n<p>He said tackling social issues was considered just as important as\nachieving academic success.<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion, he also called on universities to build closer ties\nwith all stakeholders, including local government, businesses and\nindustry, because campuses form an integral part of society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUniversities do not stand alone or exist outside the community\necosystem, because a campus is an integral whole,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also hoped universities would continue to make a tangible\ndifference to the public across a range of social issues, including\ndisaster preparedness.<\/p>",
