Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto\nreminded universities that they must build an academic ecosystem\nresponsive to future needs. This message was delivered by Brian while\nleading the National Education Day (Hardiknas) ceremony in Jakarta on\nSaturday, 2 May 2026.<\/p>\n
Brian stated that universities must encourage high-quality and\nimpactful research by lecturers. Such research, according to Brian,\nshould not merely end in publications but must produce innovations and\nsolutions that address societal problems.<\/p>\n
\u201cNational research focus must also be directed towards priority and\nstrategic programmes in key future sectors, such as energy, food,\nhealth, environment, and technology,\u201d said Brian.<\/p>\n
In line with that, Brian added that President Prabowo Subianto also\nurged universities to create human resources suited to national needs.\nResearch and academic activities on campuses are requested to align with\nnational priority programmes.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo what does that mean? It means we hope the human resources we\nproduce are indeed suited to the needs of our nation,\u201d said Brian.<\/p>\n
In addition to improving the quality and direction of learning, Brian\nsaid that expanding access to education is a current government\npriority. He stated that this expansion is carried out through various\naffirmative and inclusive schemes, including the Indonesia Smart Card\n(KIP) for higher education, affirmative higher education scholarships,\nas well as pre-doctoral and doctoral scholarships.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis step ensures that every child of the nation has an equal\nopportunity to access education up to the highest levels,\u201d said\nBrian.<\/p>\n
For Brian, the 2026 Hardiknas commemoration also underscores the\nimportance of participation by all elements of the nation in building\neducation. The government, families, educational units, universities,\nthe business world, and society are encouraged to collaborate in\ncreating an inclusive, relevant, and sustainable education\necosystem.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the All-Indonesian Student Executive Body (BEM SI)\nwill hold a demonstration action to commemorate National Education Day\n(Hardiknas) on 2 May 2026. The demonstration will take place in the\nPatung Kuda Arjuna Wijaya area, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n

BEM SI highlights the condition\nof education that still faces disparities and policies that stray from\nthe people\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n \u201cHardiknas is not just a ceremony.
