The Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) is facing a significant workload due to a shortage of personnel, with only around 5,000 members available against an ideal requirement of over 10,000 to handle 24-hour enforcement duties effectively. Head Satriadi Gunawan highlighted that the current staffing leads to overburdened shifts and has proposed recruiting 5,000 younger personnel to alleviate the strain, especially given the 35 deaths among members in the past year linked partly to age and health factors. This proposal aims to optimise operations at the sub-district level, where each kelurahan ideally needs 18-20 officers, and underscores the need for better resource allocation in maintaining public order in the capital.

The Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) has revealed the
high workload burden on its members due to limited personnel numbers in
the field. Currently, the available members are deemed insufficient
compared to the demands of 24-hour public order enforcement duties.

Head of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta, Satriadi Gunawan, stated that the
ideal personnel requirement exceeds 10,000 individuals. However, the
current number stands at around 5,000, necessitating an additional 5,000
personnel to meet the ideal figure.

“With the three-shift system, the number of personnel per shift
becomes very limited. This impacts the high workload that each member
must bear,” said Satriadi in a statement to reporters on Friday
(24/4/2026).

He explained that ideally, one kelurahan requires about 18 to 20
personnel to ensure more optimal work distribution. With that number,
each shift can be filled by an adequate team, preventing excessive
workload.

“However, the current situation is still far from that ideal
standard,” he added.

Regarding the 35 personnel who died within one year, Satriadi
conveyed that the data is a factual condition openly presented during a
meeting with the DKI Jakarta Regional People’s Representative Council
(DPRD).

He stated that age and health conditions remain factors that cannot
be ignored. Currently, some members are even over 45 years old,
requiring attention in managing their workload.

“Indeed, not all are directly linked to the workload, but the
shortage of personnel potentially exacerbates the duties of members in
the field,” he explained.

Satpol PP DKI Jakarta also proposes adding personnel with younger
ages. This step is intended to facilitate task implementation in the
field.

“The proposal has been submitted and is hoped to receive attention in
future discussions,” Satriadi clarified.
",
