The Bontang Police Narcotics Unit (Satresnarkoba) in East Kalimantan\nhas arrested a 17-year-old high school student for his involvement as a\ncourier in a methamphetamine trafficking ring. Police seized one packet\nof the narcotic from the student.<\/p>\n
Bontang Police Chief AKBP Anak Agung Gede Wibowo Sitepu, through\nNarcotics Unit Head AKP Larto, stated on Monday that the arrest was the\nresult of a follow-up investigation based on public information, which\nled officers to the suspected supplier.<\/p>\n
\u2018We will continue to develop every piece of information we receive.\nThe public\u2019s role is crucial in breaking the chain of narcotics\ndistribution. Do not hesitate to report any suspicious activity in your\nneighbourhood,\u2019 he stressed.<\/p>\n
He explained that the information received indicated suspected\nmethamphetamine distribution in the Jalan Sutan Syahrir area, Tanjung\nLaut Village, Bontang. The Narcotics Unit acted on the report, and\nthrough investigation, officers apprehended the student, who is now\nclassified as a child in conflict with the law (ABH). The student\nadmitted to acting as a courier. Police also arrested another\nindividual, identified as MFS (18), who was a dealer in the network.<\/p>\n
\u2018We apprehended both of them in different locations after developing\nthe case from the initial arrest of the ABH,\u2019 Larto said.<\/p>\n
During the operation, the team observed the student acting\nsuspiciously while waiting for someone on a motorcycle on Jalan Sultan\nSyahrir, Tanjung Laut Village, South Bontang District. A search of the\nstudent uncovered a packet of methamphetamine with a gross weight of\n0.33 grams, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle. The subsequent\ninvestigation led officers to MFS.<\/p>\n
Following the student\u2019s confession, police conducted a raid at a\nhouse on Jalan Pelabuhan I, Duyung Alley, where MFS resided, and\narrested him without resistance. A search of the premises yielded\nanother packet of methamphetamine weighing 0.30 grams, a suction device\n(bong), and IDR 400,000 in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug\nsales.<\/p>\n
MFS, a recent high school graduate, admitted to obtaining the drugs\nfrom another individual, identified as M, a resident of Bontang. Police\nare now pursuing M, who is suspected of being the supplier to MFS, but\nthe suspect remains at large.<\/p>\n
\u2018We are currently conducting further examinations of both suspects,\nincluding how long they have been involved in this activity and their\nmotives for distributing narcotics,\u2019 Larto added.<\/p>\n
Both suspects are charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law\nNumber 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, in conjunction with the Criminal Code\nand applicable penal adjustment regulations.
