JAKARTA (JP): Former governor Wiyogo Atmodarminto and 10 high
\nranking city officials have been using Harley Davidson motorbikes
\nbelonging to the government for private use without proper
\nprocedures, a source said.<\/p>\n
The motorbikes were formerly used for guarding presidents and
\nprime ministers during the 1992 Non-Aligned Movement Summit in
\nthe capital. With the conference over, the right to use the
\nmotorbikes was in the hands of the City Land Transportation
\nAgency (DLLAJ), according to the source.<\/p>\n
However, the source added, Wiyogo, who was then the city
\ngovernor, took one of the bikes for himself right after the end
\nof the summit, while other officials followed suit within the
\nnext three years.<\/p>\n
According to the procedures, employees of the city hall could
\nonly own some of the city administration's assets, including
\nfurniture and vehicles, through a bid, 10 years after the
\nproperties were acquired by the city administration.<\/p>\n
To date, DLLAJ owns 26 motorbikes, including 14 Harley
\nDavidsons.<\/p>\n
A Harley Davidson costs hundreds of millions of rupiah and is
\npopular among well-off motorbike aficionados in the country.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Husein Djawas, the supply division head of city
\nhall, said that the division had sent a letter to DLLAJ to ask
\nthe for the Harleys to be returned.<\/p>\n
"The Harleys will be put in the hall's storage room up until
\nthe bid next year," he said.<\/p>\n
Separately, Audi I.Z. Tambunan (who?WWWWWWXXXXX), commented
\nthat the case should be investigated according to the law.<\/p>\n
"The bikes, which were bought using tax payers' money, should
