        "content": "<p>High court upholds Bintang's appeal against minister<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The State Administrative High Court has upheld<br>\npolitician Sri Bintang Pamungkas' appeal against former education<br>\nminister Wardiman Djojonegoro who fired him from the Civil<br>\nservice. This caused his dismissal from a teaching post at the<br>\nUniversity of Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\"The court orders the education minister (Juwono Sudarsono) to<br>\nrevoke the decree on the plaintiff's dismissal and issue a new<br>\ndecree to rehabilitate Bintang to his former occupation (as a<br>\nlecturer),\" presiding judge Benjamin Mangkoedilaga told reporters<br>\nat his office yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Benjamin said yesterday that the court reached its verdict<br>\nTuesday to annul the Jakarta State Administrative Court's (PTUN)<br>\nFebruary ruling supporting Wardiman's decision to dismiss Bintang<br>\nas a lecturer at the University of Indonesia's faculty of<br>\nengineering in August last year.<\/p>\n<p>Bintang's dismissal from the post came after the former United<br>\nDevelopment Party legislator was convicted of defaming former<br>\npresident Soeharto and sentenced to 34 months in prison last<br>\nyear.<\/p>\n<p>Bintang however was released, along with labor leader Muchtar<br>\nPakpahan, by Soeharto's successor B.J. Habibie as part of a<br>\npledge to build a more democratic country only days after the<br>\nveteran ruler's resignation on May 21.<\/p>\n<p>Bintang told The Jakarta Post that he was very surprised by<br>\nthe decision.<\/p>\n<p>\"The victory is because of the amnesty... I was free of all<br>\ncharges once the amnesty was given,\" Bintang, who is also founder<br>\nand chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Union Party, said.<\/p>\n<p>He also said there has been an informal agreement with the<br>\nfaculty's staff prior to the high court' decision that he would<br>\nstart giving lectures on Aug. 31.<\/p>\n<p>\"I will give lectures for four hours per week,\" added<br>\nBintang.
