Ponorogo, East Java (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People\u2019s\nConsultative Assembly (MPR RI) Hidayat Nur Wahid has asserted that\npesantren are an inseparable part of the history and journey of the\nIndonesian nation, from the independence struggle to current national\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
\u201cPondok pesantren have helped build Indonesia from the early days of\nindependence until now. Therefore, the existence of pesantren cannot be\nseparated from the nation\u2019s history,\u201d Hidayat said while attending an\nulama gathering for the Centenary Milad of Pondok Modern Darussalam\n(PMD) Gontor in Ponorogo on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The Gontor alumnus from the class of 1978 assessed that PMD Gontor\nhas made a significant contribution to the development of Islamic\neducation over the past century.<\/p>\n
According to him, the pesantren established in Ponorogo has given\nrise to many similar educational institutions in various regions, which\nhave contributed to producing human resources and future national\nleaders.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a charitable deed whose benefits are felt by the ummah and\nthe nation, not only through education but also through the service of\nits alumni in various fields,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Hidayat also highlighted the role of pesantren figures and alumni in\nnational life, including their involvement in the reform process and the\nstrengthening of religious values within the national education\nsystem.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Muhammad Syafi\u2019i\nconveyed the appreciation of President Prabowo Subianto for PMD Gontor\u2019s\ncentury-long journey, which has been able to maintain an educational\ntradition based on sincerity, independence, and mutual cooperation.<\/p>\n
\u201cGontor\u2019s continuity up to 100 years demonstrates the strength of the\nvalues inherited and consistently upheld by the pesantren,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Syafi\u2019i, pesantren have a major contribution to\nIndonesian history because many national figures and independence\nfighters emerged from the pesantren educational environment.<\/p>\n
However, he reminded of the importance of strengthening the positive\nimage of pesantren amidst various challenges that arise with the\ntimes.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Religious Affairs, he said, continues to encourage\nimprovements in governance quality and the strengthening of the\npesantren education ecosystem so that it remains a choice for the\npublic.<\/p>\n
In addition, pesantren are also encouraged to adapt to developments\nin science and technology without abandoning the moral and character\nvalues that are the hallmark of pesantren education.<\/p>\n
\u201cTechnology must be mastered, but morality remains the main\nfoundation. In this way, pesantren will continue to be an important\nforce in national development,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
