        "content": "<p>JAKARTA \u2014 The Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, commonly\nknown as Gus Ipul, has stated that the Ministry of Social Affairs\n(Kemensos) lacks adequate capacity to properly manage the nation\u2019s\nHeroes\u2019 Cemeteries (Taman Makam Pahlawan, TMP).<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, management of TMP will transition from the Ministry of\nSocial Affairs to the Ministry of Defence (Kemenhan) beginning April\n2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ministry of Social Affairs simply does not have adequate\ncapacity to manage Heroes\u2019 Cemeteries properly, comprehensively, and\nwith sufficient support,\u201d Gus Ipul said during a meeting at the Ministry\nof Social Affairs headquarters in Central Jakarta on Friday, 13 March\n2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful and appreciative that there has been a directive to\nhand over management to the Ministry of Defence. This process is\ncurrently underway, and I am confident it will be an improvement,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>Gus Ipul stated that if the transition proceeds as planned, the\nDefence Ministry will assume full responsibility for managing Heroes\u2019\nCemeteries across Indonesia from 1 April 2026 onwards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have scheduled the transition to take effect on 1 April. This is\nstill a transition period, but the Ministry of Social Affairs will\ncontinue to assist during this period using our existing resources,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>The transfer of management authority to the Defence Ministry was a\ndirect presidential directive from President Prabowo Subianto, intended\nto strengthen maintenance and oversight whilst ensuring authenticity and\nrespect in accordance with national values.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor legal and technical matters, please proceed\u2014the target is\ntransfer by 1 April. However, documentation can be handed over before\nApril, even this Ramadan month if desired,\u201d Gus Ipul stated in a press\nbriefing on Thursday, 12 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, 216 National Martyrs\u2019 Graves (Makam Pahlawan Nasional) are\nlocated in the main Kalibata National Heroes\u2019 Cemetery (TMPN Utama\nKalibata).<\/p>",
