INFO TEMPO \u2013 Flooding at the end of 2025 struck unexpectedly for some\nresidents in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Many lost part of\ntheir belongings, homes, and even relatives. In response, the government\nis expediting recovery efforts to restore normal life. The task of this\nmission is carried out by the Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction\nAcceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR) led by Home Affairs Minister Tito\nKarnavian.<\/p>\n
One of the recovery measures is to provide assistance to affected\ncommunities, seen as both helpful and a means to revive the local\neconomy in the aftermath of the floods. The Ministry of Social Affairs,\nalso part of Satgas PRR, is responsible for disbursing these social\naids. The process will be conducted with caution, targeted precision,\nand usefulness. It is hoped beneficiaries will use the funds wisely.<\/p>\n
\u201cDisbursement is expected to be quick, but also targeted, prudent,\ncareful, and accountable,\u201d said Minister of Social Affairs Gus Ipul at\nhis office on Thursday, 5 March 2026.<\/p>\n
Here are six types of social assistance administered to flood victims\nacross the three affected provinces.<\/p>\n
Emergency social assistance is a programme provided by the Ministry\nof Social Affairs specifically for emergencies, such as natural\ndisasters in Sumatra. Unlike regular social assistance, this aid focuses\non the initial disaster response phase to meet urgent basic needs so\nvictims can survive.<\/p>\n
For the floods in Sumatra, emergency social assistance has a total\nallocation of Rp 110 billion. The funds are used to cover logistics, the\nestablishment of communal kitchens, staple foods, and other essential\nneeds during the emergency and post-disaster period.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the emergency period, the Ministry of Social Affairs is\ntasked with providing logistic support, organising communal kitchens,\nand supplying shelters with a support value exceeding Rp 110 billion,\u201d\nGus Ipul said.<\/p>\n
This condolence assistance is provided specifically to the heirs of\nvictims who died as a result of flash floods and landslides in the three\naffected provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The amount is\nRp 15 million per victim and is distributed directly to close relatives\nsuch as spouses, children, parents, or siblings who are legal heirs.<\/p>\n
The aim is to ease the economic burden on families left behind and\noffer moral support during the deep grief after the floods. Satgas PRR\nrequires that victims resume life with improved prospects.<\/p>\n
This compensation is part of adaptive disaster social assistance\nwithin the rehabilitation and recovery phase. Unlike the death benefit,\nthis is for those who have sustained serious injuries.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Social Affairs provides this compensation to support\nmedical treatment, rehabilitation, or to ease the burden during the\nhealing period. The amount is Rp 5 million per person.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have also been tasked with distributing assistance to heirs of\nthose who died and to those who are seriously injured,\u201d Gus Ipul\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Housing completion assistance is aimed at helping victims whose homes\nwere damaged or destroyed to secure basic household needs. Thus,\nsurvivors after the floods will be aided in obtaining kitchen\nappliances, chairs, tables, bedding, bathing equipment, and other\nessential household items.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Social Affairs will provide Rp 3 million per\nhousehold. This aid is part of adaptive disaster social assistance\nduring the recovery phase and distributions involve PT Pos\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
This measure is a government step to prevent the economies of Aceh,\nNorth Sumatra, and West Sumatra from stalling. Providing Rp 5 million\nper family, the state aims to improve socio-economic conditions so\nactivity can resume. The aid is distributed through PT Pos\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
In addition to disbursement, the Ministry of Social Affairs involves\nsocial pillars in its monitoring system, including beneficiaries under\nthe Family Hope Programme (PKH), Kecamatan-level Welfare Teams, Karang\nTaruna, and collaboration with regional governments to ensure\nbeneficiaries use the assistance accurately.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe economic stimulus assistance is currently in the process of\ndisbursement in line with verification and validation of recipient data\non the ground, to remain targeted and accountable,\u201d said Masryani\nMansyur, Director of Social Protection for Disaster Victims, via\ntelephone on Wednesday 4 March 2026.<\/p>\n
This living security assistance aims to meet basic daily needs for\nflood victims in Sumatra. Needs may include food, nutrition, rice, and\nother essentials during the post-disaster transition period.<\/p>\n
If housing completion and socio-economic stimulation are disbursed\nper household, this living allowance is provided per person. The amount\nis Rp 450 thousand per month for three months. As with housing and\nstimulus, the living allowance also uses PT Pos as the distributor to\nthe community.<\/p>\n
The head of the PRR Task Force and also the Home Affairs Minister\nTito Karnavian desires life to return to normal as quickly as possible,\nas before the floods. As of Friday, 6 March 2026, Tito and Gus Ipul are\nin Aceh to check the latest conditions and to engage with evacuees.<\/p>\n
Recovery efforts focus on ensuring basic needs\u2014logistics, housing,\nand food\u2014are met.
