In her swearing-in ceremony on Oct. 21, Health Minister Siti
\nFadilah Supari expressed her commitment to ensuring that under
\nher leadership the health ministry would be corruption-free,
\ndisciplined and hard-working.<\/p>\n
One of the serious problems afflicting the health sector is
\ndrug mismanagement, which is reflected in such things ranging
\nfrom the absence of quality standards and the prohibitive prices
\nof drugs to dispensaries failing to observe standing regulations.<\/p>\n
It should be the immediate task of the health ministry to
\ncontrol drug manufacturers, major drug vendors and physicians
\nthat collude with suppliers and make patients spend more money on
\ndrugs unnecessarily.<\/p>\n
Not to be neglected is, of course, an improved system of
\nhealth insurance. The services health insurance company PT Askes
\nprovides do not meet people's expectations.<\/p>\n
