Hendropriyono urged to stay as KTI chief<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A leading national fight promoter has asked
\nIndonesian Pro-boxing Commission (KTI) chairman A.M Hendropriyono
\nto reconsider his intention to step down from the top post of the
\norganization.<\/p>\n
\"We still badly need such a figure with strong leadership
\ngreat integrity and wide vision as Pak Hendro at the helm of
\nKTI,\" promoter Anthon Sihombing said yesterday.<\/p>\n
He said Hendropriyono could cooperate with everyone, and has
\nproven beyond doubt that he has great dedication to the
\ndevelopment of professional boxing in the country.<\/p>\n
\"I think instead of Pak Hendro, it is some certain individuals
\nin the KTI executive board who must resign because they cannot
\nwork with the commission's chief,\" Anthon said.<\/p>\n
Army Lt. General Hendropriyono, a former Jakarta Military
\nChief, expressed his wish to resign two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
Rumors have it that the main reason behind Hendro's intention
\nto leave KTI was State Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports
\nHayono Isman's wish that KTI and Pertina (Indonesian Amateur
\nBoxing Association) be merged.<\/p>\n
Anthon said if Hendropriyono does resign, he would be \"the
\nsaddest man in Indonesia.\"
\n \"This means that the Suwito Lagola-Frans Pena fight next March
\nfor which I will be the promoter will be my last job as a fight
\npromoter,\" Anthon said without elaborating.<\/p>\n
Suwito, the Indonesian WBF (World Boxing Federation)
\nwelterweight champion, is scheduled to make his first defense of
\nthe title he won from Jaime Perma of the United States on Sept.30
\nagainst another American, Frans Pena, here on March 17.<\/p>\n
But Anthon believed that Hendro's intention to step down would
\nnot be accepted by most participants attending the KTI Congress
