Subagyo Hadisiswoyo has<br>\npronounced a &quot;pure accident&quot; as the cause of the crash of an Army<br>\nhelicopter in East Timor earlier this month, Antara reported<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The Army&apos;s investigation confirmed the preliminary finding<br>\nthat the Bell 205 aircraft crashed after hitting a tree and the<br>\nside of a mountain in bad weather, Gen. Subagyo said.<\/p>\n<p>It was not shot down by East Timor separatist rebels, he told<br>\nreporters during a visit to Bandung, West Java.<\/p>\n<p>All 12 officers on board the helicopter were killed in the<br>\nJune 4 crash in Viqueque regency in East Timor. They included<br>\nMaj. Gen. Yudomo Sastro Suhardjo, the chief of the Udayana<br>\nRegional Military Command, and Col. Slamat Sidabutar, the chief<br>\nof the East Timor military command.<\/p>\n<p>The Udayana Regional Military Command oversees provinces of<br>\nBali, East and West Nusa Tenggara and East Timor.<\/p>\n<p>Yudomo had only served in the post for eight days, having<br>\nreplaced Maj. Gen. Syahrir M.S., who had been appointed chief of<br>\nthe Army&apos;s special force (Kopassus).<\/p>\n<p>Subagyo said the investigation team, formed a day after the<br>\ncrash, had completed its work and presented its report, complete<br>\nwith photographs.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Army spokesman Brig. Gen. I Dewa Putu Rai announced<br>\nyesterday the appointment of Maj. Gen. Adam R. Damiri, chief of<br>\nthe Army&apos;s Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad) First Division,<br>\nas the new chief of the Udayana command replacing Yudomo.<\/p>\n<p>Maj. Adam is a 1972 graduate of the Armed Forces Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Col. Suhartono Suratman, chief of Kopassus Group 3 for<br>\neducation and training, will fill the post of Sidabutar, Putu Rai<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Brig. Gen. I Gede Dewa Purnawa, deputy chief of the Army Staff<br>\nand Command School (Seskoad), will take over Adam&apos;s Kostrad<br>\nposition.<\/p>\n<p>Two other appointments were made to fill posts left vacant due<br>\nto fatalities in the crash. Lt. Col. Edy Sunardi has been<br>\nappointed assistant for intelligence affairs to the Udayana<br>\nCommand chief of staff, and Lt. Col. Budi Heriyanto will be<br>\nassistant for operations to the Udayana Military Command chief of<br>\nstaff.<\/p>\n<p>Edy replaces Col. Pangandaran Napitulu, and Budi replaces Col.<br>\nSatria Buana.<\/p>\n<p>Putu Rai also confirmed that Brig. Gen. Syamsul Ma&apos;arif,<br>\ncurrently chief of staff of the Brawijaya regional military<br>\ncommand, will become the new Armed Forces (ABRI) spokesman,<br>\nreplacing Brig. Gen. A.
