        "content": "<p>US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the United States can\nmaintain a blockade against Iranian ports indefinitely by rotating\nwarships in and out of the region as needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can maintain the blockade for as long as necessary. Indefinitely,\nthe US Navy can maintain such a blockade because we will continue to\nrotate ships in and out of the region,\u201d Hegseth told reporters in Panama\non Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Hegseth said this capability is supported by the strength of the US\nNavy, which he claimed no other country in the world possesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo other country or navy in the world has the ability to form a\nsteel wall like the US Navy, nor the willingness to use it as we have\ndone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hegseth, Iran knows that it cannot exit or enter through\nthe blockaded area and that there is no time limit on the imposition of\nthe blockade.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, US President Donald Trump said the United States had\n\u201cfull control\u201d over the Strait of Hormuz and pledged to maintain a naval\nblockade of the strategic waterway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe false US claims regarding the normal passage of ships through\nthe Strait of Hormuz, which reflect the impotence and confusion of that\ncountry\u2019s military, are nothing but baseless lies and falsehoods,\u201d read\na statement from Iran\u2019s military command broadcast by Iranian state\nbroadcaster IRIB.<\/p>\n<p>The US and Iran had previously agreed to a Pakistan-mediated\nceasefire in April and then signed an agreement on 17 June to begin\nnegotiations towards a final deal.<\/p>\n<p>However, the negotiations stalled due to differences over security\nguarantees and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the\nkey strategic routes for global energy supplies and trade.<\/p>\n<p>On 8-24 July, the US and Iran exchanged attacks once again.\nWashington struck a number of targets in Iran, while Tehran retaliated\nby attacking US facilities, infrastructure and military assets in\nseveral Arab countries, including Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait.<\/p>",
