Residential areas in one hamlet in Cibuluh Village, Cidaun District,
Cianjur Regency, West Java, are at risk of being buried by landslides.
This situation was triggered by heavy rain that lashed the region on
Friday (27/3).

Cidaun District Head Gagan Rusganda has requested that an assessment
or inspection be promptly carried out by the technical department in the
Cianjur Regency government to address the condition. According to him,
the site is observed to be quite vulnerable to cliff collapses, given
that rain is predicted to continue.

“There is one hamlet that requires an assessment or inspection by the
technical department because the landslide position is on a cliff below
which there are residential areas,” said Gagan on Sunday (29/3).

The heavy rain on Friday (27/3) not only threatened residential
areas. There were also landslides at 17 points, which may increase, a
road connection between Hegarwangi Hamlet and Tipar Hamlet in Datar
Jeruk Hamlet was cut off, and rice fields were buried by landslides.

“For the points of soil material landslides blocking the road,
cleaning has begun on Saturday (28/3). The cleaning was carried out by
local residents collaboratively,” explained Gagan.

From the field assessment, said Gagan, the urgent handling that must
be done immediately is the construction of the interrupted road. This
includes the installation of gabions at several points on the road
because they are prone to collapse.

“This must be followed up immediately, especially the construction of
the interrupted road and the installation of gabions for several road
points. If not handled promptly, it is feared that when the road is
traversed by vehicles, without a concrete road retaining wall, it could
add more points where the road is cut off,” he stressed.

The district and village governments are continuously monitoring
developments and conditions in the field. This is because rain is
predicted to continue, which could impact potential disasters.

“We are continuously monitoring its developments. Alhamdulillah,
there were no injuries or fatalities in the disaster event on Friday,”
he concluded.
",
