        "content": "<p>Heavy rain struck Depok City, West Java, on Saturday night\n(21\/3\/2026). Several areas were subsequently flooded, including\nPerumahan Bukit Cengkeh 1, Perumahan Bukit Cengkeh 2, and Perumahan\nTaman Duta, located near Kali Jantung. The water began overflowing from\n6:00 PM WIB. \u201cIt started from 6:00 PM WIB. The water hasn\u2019t receded\nyet,\u201d said Opung Mutiara Rajagukguk Naibaho, a resident of Perumahan\nBukit Cengkeh 2. The water height in Perumahan Bukit Cengkeh 1 and 2, as\nwell as Perumahan Taman Duta, reached 70-80 centimetres, and the water\nhas not subsided as of now. \u201cThe water was initially ankle-deep, around\n40 centimetres. But due to the high intensity of the rain, the water\nflowed in until it reached 70-80 centimetres,\u201d she explained. The\n74-year-old Opung Mutiara suspects that the flooding in Perumahan Bukit\nCengkeh 1, 2, and Perumahan Taman Duta was caused by the breach of the\nKali Laya embankment, located not far from the residential area. \u201cThe\noverflow of the Kali Laya embankment in Depok City often breaches,\ncausing flooding in residents\u2019 housing due to high rainfall,\u201d she\nstated. The Kali Laya embankment has previously breached, causing\nfloodwaters to inundate hundreds of residents\u2019 homes, especially in the\nPerumahan Bukit Cengkeh 1 and 2 areas. The flooding occurred due to high\nrainfall that made the river\u2019s discharge exceed its capacity and damage\nthe retaining embankment. Opung Mutiara said the water in her home rose\nso high that it flooded the furniture. Opung Mutiara and her family were\nforced to climb onto tables and wardrobes because of the strong current\nof rainwater. \u201cMy grandchild, my child, and I had to climb onto the\ntable and wardrobe. We were afraid of being swept away by the water\ncurrent,\u201d she said sadly. Local residents, according to Opung Mutiara,\nhave repeatedly urged the Depok City Government to immediately repair or\nstrengthen the embankment structure along the Kali Laya flow.\n\u201cEmbankment repairs are the main demand of residents here to address\nflooding. However, to this day, that demand has been taken as mere hot\nair,\u201d she said. In addition, water pooling also occurred on Jalan\nJuanda, Sukmajaya. Vehicles had to pass slowly. That road section was\nstill passable by vehicles but at low speed.
