        "content": "<p>The fate of Republika journalist Bambang Noroyono, or Abeng, has come\nunder intense scrutiny after he was reported abducted by Israeli\nsoldiers while participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla 2026\nhumanitarian mission to Gaza, Palestine. Amidst the Israeli military\ninterception of the international volunteer fleet, Abeng managed to send\na video message requesting assistance from the Indonesian\ngovernment.<\/p>\n<p>The video was uploaded via the Republika Instagram account on Monday,\n18 May 2026. In the recording, Bambang Noroyono requested that the\nGovernment of the Republic of Indonesia take immediate steps to secure\nhis release from Israeli military abduction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am Bambang Noroyono, also known as Abeng, an Indonesian citizen\nand a participant in the Global Sumud Flotilla 2026 humanitarian\nmission. If you find this video, please convey to the Indonesian\ngovernment that I am currently being held by Israeli Zionist soldiers,\u201d\nAbeng stated in the video quoted from the Republika Instagram account on\nMonday, 18 May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Abeng also urged the Indonesian government to continue supporting the\nstruggle of the Palestinian people amidst the ongoing conflict in\nGaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI request that the Indonesian government frees me from the abduction\nby the Israeli Zionist occupation forces, and I ask the Indonesian\ngovernment to continue supporting the independence of Palestine,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Israeli forces were reported to have begun intercepting\nthe Global Sumud Flotilla fleet on Monday, 18 May 2026, at approximately\n11:00 Turkish time. The operation took place in Cypriot waters,\napproximately 200 nautical miles from Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>The Global Sumud Flotilla is known to be an international\nhumanitarian mission carrying volunteers and aid for the Palestinian\npeople in Gaza. The group included several volunteers from Indonesia,\nincluding Bambang Noroyono.<\/p>\n<p>Bambang was aboard the ship Boralize with other volunteers when the\ninterception occurred. Before communication was severed, he had reported\nthe approach of Israeli warships towards the fleet he was travelling\non.<\/p>\n<p>According to the last report sent by Bambang, Israeli warships were\nseen very close to the volunteer ship, at a distance of only about one\nhundred metres.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after that report, Bambang Noroyono was reported abducted by\nIsraeli soldiers during the interception operation. To date, there has\nbeen no official information regarding the condition of Bambang or the\nother volunteers who were also detained.<\/p>",
