Hearing into Mega insult postponed again<\/p>\n
Due to personal commitments, a South Jakarta District Court
\njudge postponed on Wednesday for the second time the hearing into
\na criminal case involving a student accused of insulting
\nPresident Megawati Soekarnoputri.<\/p>\n
Judge T.H. Tampubolon left the court without giving prior
\nnotice to waiting defendant Kiastomo, prosecutor Adnan and court
\nclerk Marsunu.<\/p>\n
On Monday, the judge also postponed the hearing because he had
\nto attend a funeral.<\/p>\n
Wednesday's session was supposed to hear the judge's decision
\ninto whether or not the court would continue the trial, which is
\nthe second under Megawati's administration.<\/p>\n
The case revolves around the burning of a paper-and-bamboo
\npuppet which was fashioned as an image of Megawati.<\/p>\n
According to Kiastomo's lawyer, Nila, the act was held on July
\n26 inside the compound of the Institute of Social and Political
\nSciences in South Jakarta, as part of a performance designed to
\nlighten a student gathering on evaluating the government.<\/p>\n
Kiastomo is accused of igniting the fire and therefore the
\noffense, under Article 134 of the Criminal Code, of insulting the
\npresident. The article carries a maximum penalty of six years'
