Health ministry issues travel alert<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The health ministry has asked Indonesian citizens
\nplanning to travel China, Taiwan, Hongkong and Singapore to make
\nsure they were entirely fit and healthy before going abroad in
\nthe wake of a possible outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory
\nSyndrome (SARS).<\/p>\n
The ministry's infectious disease eradication secretary Sjafii
\nAhmad said on Monday the ministry issued the travel alert in
\nresponse to SARS cases discovered in the foreign countries
\nrecently.<\/p>\n
Sjafii said the travel alert followed a meeting between the
\nministry officials and SARS experts team on Jan. 9, which also
\nrecommended that health agencies across the country increase
\nmonitoring, particularly in border areas, the hometowns of
\nmigrant workers and tourist destinations.<\/p>\n
The ministry has also asked all airports and seaports which
\nserve as the entry points to Indonesia to use their thermal
\nscanners to detect passengers infected with SARS.<\/p>\n
Sjafii, however, called on the public to remain calm and
\ncontact the nearest community health center or hospital when they
\nknow someone with SARS symptoms. -- JP<\/p>",
