        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Health has affirmed that children\nmust be protected from exposure to and the promotion of tobacco\nproducts, both conventional and electronic, or vape.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the Ministry\u2019s Bureau of Communication and Public\nInformation, Aji Muhawarman, said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the\nMinistry was concerned about reports that a content creator had\nallegedly involved children in vape promotion during a live\nbroadcast.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry respects and supports the process currently being\ncarried out by law enforcement and related ministries and agencies in\naccordance with their authority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArticle 151 of Law Number 17 of 2023 on Health mandates the\nsafeguarding of addictive substances in the form of tobacco products and\nelectronic cigarettes to protect public health, especially children and\nadolescents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>These provisions are reinforced in Government Regulation Number 28 of\n2024, particularly Articles 435 to 449, which regulate the safeguarding\nof tobacco products and electronic cigarettes, including restrictions on\nadvertising, promotion, sponsorship and sales, as well as the protection\nof children from exposure to these products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ministry of Health affirms that vape is not a safe product.\nElectronic cigarettes still contain nicotine, which is addictive, as\nwell as various chemical substances that can increase the risk of\ndependence and chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, cancer\nand lung disease,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the Ministry of Health continues to strengthen education\non the dangers of cigarettes and vape for the public, especially\nchildren and adolescents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ministry of Health invites parents, educators, content creators,\nbusiness actors, digital platforms and all of society to jointly create\na safe digital space and not to make children targets of, or part of,\nthe promotion of products that endanger health,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, it was reported in the mass media and on social media\nthat YouTuber Bigmo promoted vape during a live broadcast, allegedly\ninvolving children. He was reported to the police over the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The police said they would summon the YouTuber in response to the\nreport.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya\nHafid plans to summon the digital platform YouTube following the\ndiscovery of content created by a creator promoting electronic cigarette\n(vape) products that targeted and involved children.<\/p>\n<p>This summons is a follow-up to YouTube, as the Ministry of\nCommunication and Digital Affairs had previously sent a first warning\nletter on Sunday (2\/8) over the discovery of vape product promotional\ncontent by content creator Muhammad Jannah, alias Bigmo, which involved\nminors during a live broadcast.<\/p>",
