Director General of\nHealth Services Azhar Jaya stressed that the hospital is a vital\nfacility that must remain accessible to the public under all\ncircumstances. \u201cWe are very concerned about the blockade at RSUP\nJayapura. The hospital is a place where people place their hopes for\nhealthcare. We hope this action remains peaceful, not anarchic, and does\nnot obstruct people\u2019s right to seek treatment,\u201d Azhar said on Saturday\n(20\/6). He added that the blockade, which closes off access to the\nhospital, could potentially endanger patient safety, particularly for\nthose requiring emergency treatment. \u201cWe urge all parties to prioritise\ndialogue. No patient should be delayed in receiving care simply because\naccess to the hospital is closed. Patient safety is the top priority,\u201d\nhe emphasised. Although the blockade has been in place at the main\nentrance since Wednesday (17\/6), hospital management has ensured that\npatient services continue. Patient and staff access has been redirected\nthrough a second entrance, with several adjustments made to maintain the\nsafety of patients, families, and healthcare workers. According to the\nlatest reports, the Emergency Department, Inpatient, and Outpatient\nservices remain operational. Two patients are being treated in the\nEmergency Department, 33 in Inpatient wards, and six in the Intensive\nCare Unit. Afternoon shift staff also remain on standby to serve\npatients. RSUP Jayapura management continues to coordinate with security\nforces, including the Jayapura City Police, Abepura Police Sector,\nKorem, and the Cenderawasih University Rectorate, to anticipate the\nsituation. The hospital has also issued a preparedness circular for all\nemployees and provided updates to the public through official social\nmedia channels. The blockade is reportedly linked to aspirations and\ndemands from the local indigenous community regarding the clarity of the\nland status used for the construction of RSUP Jayapura. The Ministry of\nHealth hopes the issue can be resolved promptly through consultation\nwith relevant parties, without sacrificing the rights of the Papuan\npeople to receive proper healthcare. \u201cWe believe that through good\ndialogue, this issue can find common ground.
