        "content": "<p>The home-based learning will run from 15 September 2026 until air\nquality improves and is declared safe.<\/p>\n<p>Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) - The Riau Islands (Kepri) Provincial\nGovernment has shifted face-to-face learning for senior high school\n(SMA), vocational school (SMK) and special needs school (SLB) students\nto learning from home due to declining air quality triggered by haze in\nthe region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis learning from home will begin on 15 September 2026, until the\nair quality condition improves and is declared safe,\u201d said Riau Islands\nProvincial Secretary Misni in Tanjungpinang on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Misni said the learning-from-home policy aims to protect the health\nand safety of school communities from declining air quality that could\ndisrupt public health, particularly SMA\/SMK and SLB students across all\nregencies and cities.<\/p>\n<p>Based on air quality index reports from the regency and city\nEnvironmental Agencies (DLH), he said air conditions in Riau Islands\ncurrently fall into the unhealthy category.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe implementation of learning from home will be evaluated\nperiodically, taking into account developments in air quality in Riau\nIslands,\u201d Misni said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that schools must ensure pupils\u2019 attendance and learning\nactivities remain well documented, including assigning structured tasks\nand teaching materials appropriate to conditions and the access\nlimitations faced by students in their respective areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchool principals must carry out supervision, monitoring and\nperiodic reporting on learning from home, including air quality and the\nhealth of school communities, to the Branch Head of the Education Office\nand the Head of the Riau Islands Education Office,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Misni further urged parents to accompany and supervise their children\nduring home-based learning, and to limit children\u2019s activities outside\nthe home to avoid direct exposure to the haze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost importantly, wear a mask when leaving the house, maintain a\nclean and healthy lifestyle, and drink enough water,\u201d Misni said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kosasih, the situation is exacerbated by weather in Riau\nIslands dominated by partly cloudy skies with low chances of rain, which\nis insufficient to help reduce the haze.<\/p>\n<p>He said forest and land fires in Kalimantan are still ongoing, while\nwinds from the southeast to the south can carry smoke towards Riau\nIslands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs long as conditions in Kalimantan remain extensively ablaze, the\nimpact will continue to be felt in Riau Islands,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dense haze has enveloped several areas in Riau Islands, such as\nTanjungpinang City and Bintan Regency, since Monday (14 September). As a\nresult, air conditions have deteriorated and risk disrupting public\nhealth, particularly through acute respiratory infections (ISPA).<\/p>",
