Congratulations on your vice presidential candidacy, Pak
\nHasyim Muzadi. In this way, you are prepared to bear the heavy
\nburden of putting this muddled country in order and restoring its
\ninternational role.<\/p>\n
In my view, Pak Hasyim Muzadi, you should resign as chairman
\nof the central board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), so that you can
\nconcentrate more on handling state affairs. The NU should be left
\nto other senior clerics, who I believe are capable of leading
\nthis organization.<\/p>\n
Experience has shown that leaders serving a double function
\nhas resulted to failure because they have had to split their
\nattention. As you have chosen to be a public official, you should
\nbelong to the nation instead of a certain association or party.
