PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto explained the philosophy\nbehind the \u2018Bung Karno, Father of Marhaenism\u2019 March, which is frequently\nplayed during internal party events. He stated that the March is part of\nan effort to correct historical inaccuracies and strengthen the party\u2019s\nideology, reintroducing it to PDIP cadres to revive understanding of\nMarhaenism, often misinterpreted.<\/p>\n
\u2018Therefore, the \u2019Bung Karno, Father of Marhaenism\u2019 March is crucial\nand has been reintroduced by Brother Prananda Prabowo with a new\narrangement,\u2019 Hasto said after leading the Pancasila Birth Day ceremony\nat At-Taufiq Mosque courtyard in South Jakarta on Monday (1\/6).<\/p>\n
According to Hasto, Muhammad Prananda Prabowo played a role in\nreviving the March with a new arrangement. This followed PDIP\u2019s\nhistorical disconnect during the New Order era, which affected\nunderstanding of Bung Karno\u2019s teachings.<\/p>\n
He explained that the March is not merely a political symbol but a\nmeans to revive awareness of Pancasila\u2019s core values that support the\ncommon people.<\/p>\n
\u2018It awakens our understanding of Pancasila\u2019s true nature to transform\noppressive structures based on divine, humanitarian, just, national, and\npeople-centric values,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Hasto stressed that Marhaenism, as inherited from Indonesia\u2019s first\npresident, Soekarno, differs from the stigma attached by some groups. He\nsaid Marhaenism emerged from the social reality of small-scale people\nwho live independently yet are often marginalised in development\nprocesses.<\/p>\n
Therefore, he said, Marhaenism positions the common people as the\nprimary subjects of the nation\u2019s political and economic struggle.<\/p>\n
\u2018Regarding the importance of the \u2019Bung Karno, Father of Marhaenism\u2019\nMarch, since Marhaen has often been labelled communist and so on, but it\nis a social reality that formed the historical backdrop for Bung Karno\nto liberate Indonesia\u2019s marginalised people. They were independent but\nneeded awareness-raising, hence the March is vital,\u2019 he stressed.<\/p>\n
When asked about the possibility of the March being played at state\nevents, Hasto said the key is not the March\u2019s playback but implementing\nits values in national policies.<\/p>\n
\u2018For PDIP, the important aspect of the \u2019Bung Karno, Father of\nMarhaenism\u2019 March is its spirit \u2013 the spirit of our independence and\npolitics for the Marhaen people. Hasto also highlighted challenges facing Indonesia, from education\nquality to national competitiveness compared to neighbouring countries.\nHe said the founding fathers\u2019 ideas remain relevant to address these\nissues.<\/p>\n
