        "content": "<p>PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto has responded to the\ndecline in public satisfaction with the performance of President Prabowo\nSubianto\u2019s administration. According to the latest survey by Saiful\nMujani Research and Consulting (SMRC), public satisfaction with the\ngovernment\u2019s performance fell from 81.1 percent in November 2025 to 51.1\npercent in July 2026. According to Hasto, the survey captures the middle\nclass\u2019s dissatisfaction with the political, social, and economic\nconditions that have led to their downward mobility into poverty. He\nwarned that ignoring the aspirations of the middle class could create\nnew problems, as explained by the Chilean Paradox phenomenon. The\nChilean Paradox describes a contradictory situation where a country\nappears statistically successful in economic terms but simultaneously\nexperiences social upheaval and public discontent. \u2018The decline of the\nmiddle class into poverty is very dangerous because if their critical\nviews are not responded to with appropriate policies, it could create\nsocial and political risks. We do not want that,\u2019 Hasto said at the\nPDI-P Central Executive Board office in Jakarta on 26 July 2026. He\nstated that the responsibility for improving domestic conditions lies\nnot only with the government but with all elements of society. This way,\ninterventions in political and economic issues can be carried out\nquickly and accurately. \u2018So, everyone should work hard for the nation\nand state, both inside and outside the government. SMRC Executive Director Deni\nIrvani stated that the decline in satisfaction levels is closely related\nto the drop in positive sentiment towards economic and political\nconditions and law enforcement as of July 2026. \u2018In the last nine\nmonths, those who feel very or quite satisfied with President Prabowo\u2019s\nperformance fell from 81.1 percent in November 2025 to 51.1 percent in\nthe latest July 2026 survey,\u2019 Deni said in a written statement on\nSunday. Over the same period, public dissatisfaction with the President\nincreased from 16 percent to 46.9 percent. However, the survey did not\ndetail the specific causes of the increased dissatisfaction with the\ngovernment\u2019s performance. SMRC conducted the poll among 749 randomly\nselected respondents from 5 to 19 July 2026.
