Hasjim eyes Uzbekistan cotton-spinning plant<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Businessman Hasjim Djojohadikusumo, through his
\ncompany PT Prima Komexindo, plans to build a cotton-spinning
\nfactory in Uzbekistan with an investment of almost US$30 million.<\/p>\n
Hasjim was reported yesterday by Antara as saying that a
\nfeasibility study was being conducted, soon to be followed by the
\nconstruction of the facility. The news agency did not state when
\nthe construction was scheduled to begin.<\/p>\n
Hasjim said the feasibility study would cover aspects such as
\ntransportation between Uzbekistan and Indonesia and assess what
\nfacilities would be provided by the Uzbekistani government to
\ninvestors in that country.<\/p>\n
He said that the cotton thread to be manufactured by the
\nspinning plant would be sold to companies in Indonesia.
\nUzbekistan is a major cotton producer.<\/p>\n
Hasjim said many Indonesian companies, such as those owned by
\nthe Bakrie Group, Texmaco and Rajawali Nusantara, have expressed
\ninterest in investing in cotton-spinning factories in Uzbekistan.
\nBut so far, he said, only Prima Komexindo has come forward with a
