Hashim says IBRA's statement `misleading'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Businessman Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo regretted
\non Thursday the threat of a senior official from the Indonesian
\nBank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) to take legal action against him
\nif he failed to settle the obligations of two of his closed
\nbanks.<\/p>\n
Hashim said the IBRA official had not been involved in the
\ndiscussion to settle the debts of Bank Pelita and Bank
\nIstismarat.<\/p>\n
"As far as we know, Dasa Sutantio has never been involved in
\ndiscussions and negotiations about these two banks, which were
\ncarried out with another officer from IBRA," he said in a press
\nstatement, referring to the group head of the asset management
\ninvestment unit at IBRA.<\/p>\n
Dasa said on Tuesday that IBRA would take legal action in
\nJanuary against Hashim if he failed to repay the obligations to
\nthe two banks.<\/p>\n
Bank Pelita and Bank Istismarat received some Rp 3.2 trillion
\nin government liquidity support last year as the economic crisis
\ndeepened.<\/p>\n
"The process of settling debts of Bank Pelita and Bank
\nIstismarat is still ongoing," Hashim said.<\/p>\n
"These two banks have always fulfilled documentation
\nrequirements, as well as a letter of commitment, as requested by
\nIBRA.<\/p>\n
"Moreover, discussions have reached the agreed principal
\ntimetable. This should be agreed by both sides, in order to
\nsettle debts incurred for Bank Pelita and Bank Istismarat."<\/p>\n
Hashim is the owner of the diversified Tirtamas Group.<\/p>\n

\nHutapea said Hashim never refused settling the debts of the two
\nbanks.<\/p>\n
"He has even signed a letter stating that all the shareholders
\nof the two banks are willing to settle their obligations to IBRA,
\nbased on mutual agreement," he said.<\/p>\n
"Hashim is now out of the country, and will return at the end
\nof the week to meet with appropriate officials to correct the
