        "content": "<p>TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As forest and land fires spread around Nusantara\nCapital City (IKN) area in East Kalimantan, IKN Authority head Basuki\nHadimuljono detailed the mitigatory measures prepared by the\ngovernment.<\/p>\n<p>According to Basuki, wildfires broke out in the region due to land\nand waste burning, as well as careless disposal of cigarette butts.\nAuthorities are also probing the blaze within a corporate area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will swiftly impose administrative sanctions,\u201d Basuki said in a\nwritten response to Tempo on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, without\nnaming the corporation in question.<\/p>\n<p>Amid the wildfire threat, Basuki assured that fire panic buttons and\nfirefighting stations, personnel, and facilities are readily available\nin the Core Government Central Area. He further urged\nvillage\/sub-district governments and business permit holders in the IKN\narea to increase vigilance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor prevention, the IKN Authority has been monitoring hotspots\nintensively for about a month,\u201d said the former Minister of Public Works\nand Public Housing.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lack of haze in the IKN area, Basuki also assured that\nthe authority has taken health precautions. Preventive and emergency\nmeasures related to the impact of forest fires were agreed upon with\nhospital management in the capital city. Basuki also urged school\nadministrators to encourage students to wear medical masks.<\/p>\n<p>Citing an Antara report on September 2, 2026, a joint team from\nvarious agencies in North Penajam Paser, where IKN is located, put out\n89.15 hectares of forest fires out of 84 incidents from January to\nAugust 31, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>These included 49 fire incidents in Penajam District, burning 43.92\nhectares; five incidents in Waru District, covering 20.75 hectares; 22\nincidents in Babulu District, covering 22.24 hectares; and eight\nincidents in Sepaku District, burning 2.26 hectares.<\/p>\n<p>Nurlaila, Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency of North\nPenjaam Paser Regency, said the dry season proves to be a challenge to\nobtain water supply sources to combat wildfires.
