Hartarto's honorary degree<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Erasmus University of Rotterdam in the
\nNetherlands has awarded an honorary degree -- equivalent to a
\ndoctoral degree in science -- to Coordinating Minister for
\nIndustry and Trade Hartarto Sastrosunarto.<\/p>\n
The award presentation ceremony took place last week at the
\nuniversity on Oct. 12, after Hartarto delivered his speech
\nentitled \"Indonesia, a model for synergy with Europe\" as part of
\nthe Bernard Mandeville Lecture series.<\/p>\n
Hartarto, born in Surakarta, Central Java, in May 1932, also
\nreceived similar honorary doctoral degrees from Nagpur
\nUniversity, India in 1992, University of New South Wales,
\nAustralia, in 1993 and Nanyang Technological University,
\nSingapore in 1995.<\/p>\n
Hartarto is the sixth recipient of the award after former vice
\npresident of European Union F.H.J.J. Andriessen, Chairman of the
\nDutch Industry Association F.O.J. Sickinghe, President of the
\nDutch Automotive Association P.A. Nouwen, Dutch Minister and U.N
\nHigh Commissioner M. van der Stoel and former Belgian Prime
