Harassment of women<\/p>\n

An article in Kompas on Aug. 28 titled: The presence of an
\nAlien in the House has attracted my attention. The article
\ndetails the aspects of immigration requirements and refers to the
\ncase of Andreya Masaru Miyakoshi, the child of an Indonesian
\nsubject Kristia Yuliani, 28, from her marriage to Mitsuo
\nMiyakoshi, 49, a Japanese national.<\/p>\n
Mitsuo is facing deportation. According to the prevailing
\nregulations his child Andreya is also threatened with
\ndeportation. The article said it is not surprising because there
\nwas a precedent, that of Samantha, the child of an Indonesian
\nmother and a Dutch father.<\/p>\n
In my opinion the cases are shocking. The regulations are a
\nharassment of women's basic rights; they subject women to
\noutdated laws which favor men. The regulations have to be
\nchanged.<\/p>\n
An Indonesian woman gives birth to a child in Indonesia.
\nAfterwards the child must be deported to a foreign country
\nagainst the mother's wishes, because her husband is not
\nIndonesian. Can our conscience justify it? Is it proper for this
\nto happen in an era where we speak loudly of gender equality,
\nequal rights between men and women?<\/p>\n
Let us persuade the authorities to take action so that Andreya
\ncan stay with her mother in Indonesia. The mother is an
\nIndonesian born in Indonesia. Andreya must not be chased out of
\nthis country.<\/p>\n
