        "content": "<p>Hanoi optimistic on islands' row<\/p>\n<p>HANOI (Reuters): Communist Party General Secretary Le Kha<br>\nPhieu said yesterday he believed Vietnam and China could reach a<br>\nsettlement over disputed islands in the South China Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Phieu reiterated Vietnam's long-standing sovereignty claim<br>\nover the Paracel and Spratly islands, but said Hanoi sought to<br>\nnegotiate a solution.<\/p>\n<p>He gave no details on possible solutions. Phieu was speaking<br>\nat his first formal news conference with foreign journalists<br>\nsince he assumed Vietnam's top leadership post late last year.<\/p>\n<p>Phieu did not say if talks had taken place between Hanoi and<br>\nBeijing over China's plan to develop the main island in the<br>\nParacel chain for tourism.
